Training the Trainers negotiating skills - sessions 1 and 2
Negotiating skills are important tools for most of us but in particular for employers’ organisations. For that reason DECP has started a cycle of three training courses on “Negotiations in Industrial Relations” for the benefit of VWEC Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council. These courses are meant to train and coach future trainers using the so-called “interest-based negotiations” concept such as worked out by Mr. Dirk Joosse of the AWVN (the Dutch General Employers’ Association) in his book “Negotiations in Industrial Relations”.
From May 30th till June 8th 2011 DECP sent three Dutch AWVN trainers (besides Dirk Joosse, Yvonne Boomsma and Lars Doyer) all experts on the issue of training in interest based negotiations, on a first ten day visit to Hanoi. The first part of this course was used to let the future Vietnamese trainers get acquainted with the content and learning methods of the trainings as used in other parts of the world. Our Vietnamese colleague trainers were very eager to learn about our approach. A total number of 22 participated in the course.
The second part of this first visit was used to organise a Regular Course for member employers of VWEC. This way the future trainers could get some experience in training this course under the guidance of the Dutch trainers. Also the Vietnamese employers could learn about this activity, which means good PR for future activities. The regular course was attended by no less than 32 participants. Both activities were highly appreciated
For the second course the same 3 AWVN trainers (Joosse, Boomsma and Doyer) visited Hanoi from August 3rd till August 9th 2011.
The first part of this course was largely identical to the May/June session and was used to let the future Vietnamese trainers get acquainted with the content and learning methods of the trainings as used in other parts of the world. This was followed by practicing Interactive presentations, Facilitating and writing Role Plays/ analysing negotiation situations .
The second part of the course was used to organise a Regular Course for member employers of VWEC. This way the future trainers can get more experience in training this course under the guidance of the Dutch trainers. Also the Vietnamese employers can learn about this activity, which means good PR for future activities. The regular course this time was attended by 22 participants. Both activities were well evaluated.
A third course/visit to Hanoi is planned in December 2011, more or less with the same set up. Objective: in the end Vietnam will have about twenty trainers being able to train and counsel employers and other parties on the issue of Labour relations/ negotiating labour conditions/ CLA. DECP is supporting the translation of the book Negotiations in Industrial Relations. A booklet of Vietnamese negotiations cases will also be developed. This book will be available soon, so the future trainers and participants can benefit from this initiative.
