The FUE Governing Council Retreat
Resulting from the success of the first Governing Council Retreat held in October 2013 for the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) Governing Council a further two day retreat was held at the Laico Victoria Lake Hotel in Entebbe on 31 July and 1 August supported both technically and financially by the DECP.
Although the attendance was limited the retreat provided the opportunity to take stock of developments over the last nine months.
The committee established to look at the structure of the FUE reported that significant progress had been made in reducing the staff and establishing clear objectives for those still in post. It also reported that an Executive Committee had been established to assist the Chairman and the Executive Director in the day to day running of the organisation.
The committee established to look at the completion of the new FUE offices reported that progress had been made and set out plans for possible future developments.
The third committee to report was on the Finances of the FUE. It was reported that a number of savings had been made by the secretariat and that a debt of some 150 Million Ugandan Shillings (UGS) had now been reduced to 50 Million UGS and that work was in progress to bring this down even further.
The retreat concluded with the Governing Council appreciating the progress made but with determination to continue to drive down costs and to make the FUE more responsive to its membership.
