The EAEO's Technical and Executive Committees meet
The DECP attended a meeting of the Technical Committee of the East African Employers Organisation (EAEO) in Arusha on 26 November 2015.
The meeting provided the opportunity for the members of the EAEO to discuss their proposed Strategy for the period 2016 -18. It was agreed that the EAEO should concentrate its resources on addressing the issues related to the Free Movement of Workers which would enable employers across the East African Community to work more effectively.
The meeting also provided the opportunity for members to discuss the appointment of a fulltime EAEO coordinator. Resulting from an advert a number of applications had been received and an appointment could possibly be made in early December. The meeting also noted that offices which would accommodate both the EAEO and the Association of Tanzanian Employers had been found in Arusha close to the East African Community.
The DECP also attended the meeting of the Executive Committee of the East African Employers Organisation (EAEO) in Dar es Salaam on 10 December 2015.
Resulting from interviews the meeting was advised that a fulltime coordinator had been identified and would be offered the position to start in Arusha in January 2016. The meeting was also advised that new offices had been found in Arusha for the EAEO which would be shared with the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE).
The meeting discussed a proposed outline which will form the basis for a Strategy Plan for the EAEO for the period 2016-18. It was agreed that a draft will be discussed in January with possible adoption at the EAEO Annual General Meeting of the EAEO in Arusha, Tanzania in March 2016.
During the mission the DECP discussed with the EAEO the possibility of working jointly with the trade unions a project on the Free Movement of Workers.
The mission also provided the opportunity for the DECP to attend the 10th Employer of the Year Awards organised by ATE. The guest of honour for the event was the newly appointed Prime Minister of Tanzania.
