Rethinking Advocacy
The Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) with the support of DECP are planning to rethink their advocacy strategy following the worsening political climate in the country. The current government, in office since January 2015, has been implementing business unfriendly policies. It has become almost impossible for companies to lay off people, even in the current rough economy. The tripartite discussions, in which government meets employers and labour unions, have been put on hold.
ZFE’s current advocacy strategy is based on a business agenda that was drafted in 2013 by the main representatives of Zambian business. The new strategy should be focussing on the coming general elections, likely to be held toward the end of 2016.
