Promotion of sustainable Small and Medium Enterprises
On 22 and 23 May 2012 DECP special advisor Rogier CHORUS, together with MONEF staff members Jantsan and Narmandakh, gave a seminar on sustainable SME growth and development in Mongolia
20 regional members of the Mongolian employers’ organisation MONEF attended the seminar, and actively participated in the discussions. SMEs from five provinces in Central Mongolia were thus represented. At the end of the seminar they developed a list of 25 priorities for a better SME policy, and on this basis a list of 10 suggestions was passed on to MONEF for further advocacy with the Mongolian government.
Important elements are tax credits and financial support for small job creating firms; the revision of the one-sided Labour Code; the improvement of vocational training; the stimulation of using local raw materials for making end products in Mongolia, and not for export to China; and the reduction of red tape at Customs.
