DECP trains Indonesian employers on minimum wages
From 15 till 24 March 2013 DECP visited Indonesia to meet and train employers of the employers’ organization Apindo on minimum wage issues. DECP cooperated in this with ITC/ILO from Turin and ILO office in Jakarta. Employers from Apindo’s regional organisations in West and East Indonesia participated in trainings in Bogor (Java) and Makassar ( Sulawesi).
In several regions of Indonesia minimum wages are rising very rapidly and constitute a growing threat to economic development , employment and competitiveness . The discussions concentrated on ways and methods for employers to cope with the present system in which the regional governors have the final say on the level of the minimum wage in their region. Ideas were exchanged about the merits of the present system and possible ways of improvement.
