Advisory mission to VSB in Suriname
Thieu Korten, special advisor of DECP for Suriname, visited the Suriname Trade and Industry Association (STIA- VSB) from 19th – 22nd of October.
He had in-depth discussions with both the president and the general manager of the VSB and an agreement was reached about some future projects and workshops. Action will be taken to reduce the number of non-paying members and to expand paid services to members. The VSB will try to improve its profile by enhancing its communication and PR policy.
Suriname is ranked 155th overall in the World Bank Doing Business report and the VSB will give priority in its lobby policy to permits and licences, simplifying the start of a business and the Investment Law. On this specific aspect Suriname is ranked 171st, with currently 694 days needed to start a business, so there is a lot of room for improvement.
