Advisory mission to Federation of Uganda Employers FUE in Uganda

Following an introductory visit in August 2007, Andrew Moore -Country Manager of DECP for Uganda- paid a second visit to the FUE to follow-up on a number of issues.

During his week at the FUE, some of the following topics were discussed :

* The weekly newsletter

This newsletter is being sent by e-mail and members have reacted very favourably to it.  It is now being considered to send a hard copy to those members who do not have access to a computer.

* Subscriptions

In the past few months FUE has spent a lot of time in improving personal contacts with their members and making sure they are informed on what the Federation is doing for them. This has led to increased membership as well as to an improvement of subscription payments.

* Training and Consultancy

Discussions were held on how to further improve the trainings and how to develop new courses which are of interest to the members.

* Advocacy

Both the FUE and DECP agree that this is a key issue and that it should be the main focus of any Employers' Organisation. It was decided that DECP –together with ILO- would provide a training on advocacy and lobby in May. During this training all FUE's national, regional and local representatives will participate.
